Our Goal

Providing worker(s) for the Maintenance and upkeep of Uptown NRSA public spaces, plantings and assistance to local merchants and business owners for outdoor maintenance and beautification. Racine Vocational Ministry, Inc. agrees to provide workers for work experience opportunities in partnership with Racine Revitalization Partnership, Inc. (RRP) upon request from RRP and based on availability of appropriate candidates.   

Workforce Development Expanded

The partnership between the RRP and the RVM will allow RRP to provide opportunities and experience for RVM program participants involving the improvement of buildings, maintenance, soft skills training, and education. This partnership will also allow RVM to expand services to the Uptown area of Racine.  RRP shall receive the benefit of services provided to improve the environment in the Uptown area in addition to providing workforce development opportunities for the residents of the NRSA area when possible.  It is understood that the goal is to reduce neighborhood blight by using RVM’s workforce development trainees and trainers to improve commercial properties and public spaces located in the NRSA area.  Providing opportunities for job training by developing both hard and soft skills, and education for an underserved and underemployed workforce is an additional benefit of this agreement.  

 

The specification for work at the LGBT Center located at 1456 Junction Avenue, Racine WI 1456 Junction Avenue, Racine WI shall include the following. 

Provide supervision for the cohort of students who will work on the project as defined below: 

  • Remove T-11 siding on east side of building where windows were once “filled in” 
  • Inspect for water damage and consult with RRP as to details for flashing and repair of exterior framing if required. 
  • Remove damaged or wet insulation 
  • Coordinate with LGBT center provided electrician to allow for the installation of exterior lighting 
  • Reinsulate wall as needed 
  • Install flashing at top of beam, top of windows and at brick sill 
  • Install new siding or sheathing materials using 1”x3” batten strips on 4’x8’ sheet stock. Siding to be installed over house wrap infiltration barrier. 
  • Provide corner trim 
  • Install crack filler at beam as needed and install caulk backer 
  • Caulk dissimilar surfaces to assist in reducing water infiltration 
  • Painting of exterior siding and trim to be by others 

 

Nails, adhesives and caulk shall be supplied by RFYMCA, expendables such as saw blades etc. also to be provided by RFYMCA. 

 

The RFYMCA is a year-round training program that shall engage a rotating cohort of students that shall enroll for a period of six weeks with the outcome to be measured by on the job placements based on qualifications and performance.  These students will acquire national industry credentials while completing community redevelopment and restorations projects that lead to the improvement of neighborhoods, aging housing stock, blighted parcels, and public lands located with the NRSA area known as Uptown.
