RRP and The Uptown Beautification Project

The partnership between the Racine Revitalization Partnership, Inc., and its collaborative partners allows the RRP to provide opportunities and experiences for underemployed residents of the Uptown area.  These opportunities involve the improvement of buildings, both commercial and residential.  The students learn construction, soft skills training, and general education.  RRP and the City receives the benefit of services provided to improve the built environment in the Uptown area.

The Uptown Beautification Project Expanded

Providing workforce opportunities for unemployed or underemployed individuals for the purpose of maintaining and improving the Uptown Neighborhood Revitalization Strategy Area.  This work includes public spaces, housing, plantings and assistance to local merchants and business owners for outdoor maintenance and beautification.  Partners such as the Racine Vocational Ministry, Great Lakes Community Conservation Corps, First Choice Pre-Apprenticeship Training and Amri-Corps. agree to provide workers for work experience opportunities in partnership with Racine Revitalization Partnership, Inc.    

Uptown Beautification provides opportunities for young people who are enrolled in soft skills training to apply their knowledge and ability in practical hands on experiential learning.  The beautification and stabilization of buildings in the Uptown NRSA and surrounding areas benefits with not only improved aesthetics but a more stable and appealing area for future business development. 

Uptown Beautification Projects

  • Prep-Power wash and paint lower façade and awning. To include materials and Labor. 
  • Prep and paint upper window trim at front of building, trim in ¼ round, caulk and paint 
  • Supply lift as needed for the duration of the project or as otherwise needed to complete the work
  • Prep, Power Wash, and paint façade facing north and west as well as adjacent facade of the building east of the main structure.   
  • Prep and paint upper window trim at front of building, trim, caulk, and paint 
  • Supply required equipment to reach higher work areas. 
  • Paint to be supplied by building owner.  All other materials to be supplied by Halvorson Handyman.

Remove T-11 siding on east side of building where windows were once “filled in” 

Inspect for water damage and consult with RRP as to details for flashing and repair of exterior framing if required. 

Remove damaged or wet insulation 

Coordinate with LGBT center provided electrician to allow for the installation of exterior lighting 

Reinsulate wall as needed 

Install flashing at top of beam, top of windows and at brick sill 

Install new siding or sheathing materials using 1”x3” batten strips on 4’x8’ sheet stock. Siding to be installed over house wrap infiltration barrier. 

Provide corner trim 

Install crack filler at beam as needed and install caulk backer 

Caulk dissimilar surfaces to assist in reducing water infiltration 

Painting of exterior siding and trim to be by others
